Short biography:

Alexandra Chatzikonstantinou is a graduate of the Department of Biological Applications and Technologies of the University of Ioannina (UOI), and has a master's degree in Chemical and Biochemical Technologies of the Department of Chemistry of the UOI and a PhD in Enzyme Biotechnology of the Department of Biological Applications and Technologies of the UOI. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Biotechnology laboratory of the Department of Biological Applications and Technologies of the UOI in many research programs. She has dozens of publications in prestigious international peer-reviewed scientific journals and book chapters, while she has presented her work at many national and international conferences. Her main published work focuses on the development, study and application of biocatalytic systems and biocatalytic processes for the enzymatic modification of bioactive compounds derived from, among others, agro-industrial by-products and waste, including the development and application of chromatographic and spectroscopic methods for the study and development of biocatalytic processes.

Research Interests:

·         Development of biotechnological processes for the processing and utilization of agro-industrial by-products, with the aim of producing value-added products.

·         Development of "green" biocatalytic processes in conventional and non-conventional media for the production of high value products.

·         Development of nanobiocatalysts and their application in biocatalytic processes.

·         Development and application of chromatographic and spectroscopic methods for the study and development of biocatalytic processes

·         Study of the biological activity (enzyme inhibition, antioxidant, antimicrobial, etc.) of bioactive compounds.
