Short biography: |
Nikolaos Kontoudakis graduated from the Department of Plant Production of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), with a specialization in Viticulture-Arboriculture (2005), and holds a PhD in Wine Technology (Rovira i Virgili University, Tarragona, Spain). During his PhD and later as a member of the research group “Wine Technology”, he worked on a wide range of research topics in the field of oenology. Afterwards, he served as a postdoctoral research associate in the group of Dr. Andrew Clark at the National Wine and Grape Industry Centre (Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, Australia, 2014-2019). In April 2019, he joined the research team of the “Oenology and Alcoholic Beverages Laboratory” of the AUA as a postdoctoral and academic fellow and was involved in the study of the chemical composition of wines and spirits. In 2021, he was elected Assistant Professor of "Winemaking Technologies" at the Department of Viticulture and Oenology (D.U.TH., Drama). N. Kontoudakis has several of published articles in international peer-reviewed journals, in technical journals and participation in national and international conferences. He also holds the position of editor-in-chief of the journal IVES Technical Reviews and participated as a scientific editor and translator of the books entitled "Understanding Wine Chemistry" in Greek. |

Research Interests: |
‒ Understanding the role of different metals ion species, with primary emphasis on Cu and Fe, in wine chemistry. ‒ Study of vineyard interventions and their impact on the chemical composition of grapes and wine. ‒ Study of non-volatile wine compounds (phenolic composition, polysaccharides, etc.) as well as volatile compounds. ‒ Research on winemaking and wine aging techniques. ‒ Research on distilled spirits. |
