Short biography:

Aikaterini Karampatea holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Diplôme National d’Œnologue, as well as a Master’s degree in Oenology from the University of Burgundy, and a PhD in Vine, Wine, and Beverage Sciences from the University of West Attica. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Viticulture and Oenology at Democritus University of Thrace (Drama, Greece). Prior to her current position, she taught for several years as a scientific collaborator, academic fellow, and appointed lecturer, delivering courses primarily focused on Oenology. Her expertise focuses on yeast isolation and the study of their genotypic and oenological characteristics. With over 20 years of professional experience in analytical and oenological techniques and oenological consulting, she has built her professional career through work in renowned wineries and an oenology laboratory in Greece, France, and Switzerland, including the management of the oenology laboratory Oenopolis, with professional collaboration with more than 100 wineries in Greece. She has participated in research and training programs and has published more than 25 articles in international scientific journals, as well as over 30 presentations at national and international conferences. She is a member of the Union des Œnologues de France and the Association of Greek Chemists and serves as a wine taster and judge in international wine competitions and has participated in more than 35 competitions to date, and was awarded second place at the Wine Women Awards (Paris, 2011).
